Battleground junkies rejoice, for new venues are on the horizon. Today came the announcement of the first, and probably not the last, new battleground to be implemented in the expansion: Twin Peaks. This time, it appears that Blizzard is sticking to what they know. Twin Peaks will feature the tried-and-true capture-the-flag format that we all (okay, some of us) know and love from the classic Warsong Gulch: teams of 10, first to 3 captures wins.
No maps of the battleground have been released yet, but Twin Peaks has been described as asymmetrical, a distinct difference from Warsong Gulch that is sure to create interesting challenges for the Blizzard balance team. The battleground will emphasize on new terrain aspects that were absent in WSG, some of which include more a mountainous landscape as well as bodies of water. These terrain features are sure to carry strategic implications and affect troop movement, as the cliffs and waters of Arathi Basin have shown us already.
Not a fan of good ol’ capture-the-flag? Not to worry – Blizzard is looking at other newly formatted battlegrounds; Twin Peaks is only the first to be announced. The aim is to give players who enjoy CTF some new scenery to look at, as well as developing new battleground playstyles altogether. It’s a safe bet that both old and new battlegrounds will be getting a lot of attention before Cataclysm’s release, considering the prospect of a rated battleground system is also on the horizon.
In the meantime, you may want to hit up your local WSG battlemaster and brush up on your capture-the-flag-tactics!
